Track of the Week: Adam Lambert - "Feel Something"

Updated: Mar 13, 2019

“Wanna feel something”? Look no further, #Adam #Lambert alongside co-writers #Benedict #Cork and #Josh #Cumbee have formulated a song that doubles as a soul-searching journey. Lambert reveals his #mental #health struggles by first composing a message via Twitter, stating: “I love making and performing music, but there have been many times where I’ve had to compromise on my artistic vision, with executives making decisions based on money and not art…. My self worth was suffering, I was lonely, and becoming depressed.” To combat those who were messing with his creative head-space, Lambert decided to sign with #EMPIRE, an independent record label and distributor.

Now, his new team comprises of producers Cumbee and #Afishin #Salman who help to deliver the second chance that Adam Lambert needs. “#Feel #Something” opens with angelic echoes, muffled as if you are inside the restroom of a club where the music softens in that space. Then, a gospel-like choir breaks free in the chorus and Alleluia! Adam Lambert is back, and his long-awaited return does not fall on deaf ears. The track’s honey-swirling melody and introspective lyrics can perk anyone’s attention due to its intense amount of passion and relatability. With “Feel Something,” Lambert lays himself bare as his heart cries out, “After everyone I’ve lost and every kiss I wasted, I don’t, I don’t need to feel love, just wanna feel something!” He searches relentlessly for happiness, strength and intimacy but in the meanwhile has “been leaving [his] heart in all the wrong places,” yearning to feel something other than emptiness.

Interestingly, the song structure is another key element to consider. “Feel Something” goes verse/chorus/verse/chorus and eliminates a bridge section that makes the song feel incomplete. This, however, works to Lambert’s advantage as it leads the listener to replay the song non-stop until they feel fully satisfied. The unique thing is, when you loop the song on repeat, its ending bleeds organically and beautifully into the start of the track every time.

My heart broke in two, though, upon hearing Adam Lambert sing the words, “I waited so long to feel like I’m worthy.” I understand just how underrated Lambert is because many tend to remember him from either season eight of #American #Idol or through his hit single “Whataya Want from Me.” I say, listen to “Feel Something” and let it settle in. Adam Lambert is more than worthy of praise for his endeavors. This song may not be the first ‘official’ single from his next album, but it is a gift to the #Glamberts for their unwavering faith and loyalty. Even “if it’s never enough, at least it’s better than nothing,” for Adam Lambert has finally come out of hiding and into the limelight.
