Track of the Week: "Flicker" by Madison Galloway

"The flames they... flicker [pause, insert unexpected rattlesnake-sounding tambourine]."

Browsing across Facebook, I was fortunate to find #Madison #Galloway, a petite starlette harvesting a serene #earthy #rock and #blues tone that intrigued my ears and calmed my spirit. Her track "#Flicker" explores the outdoor atmosphere, bringing the stars, moonlight, lake, and autumn season into focus. There's no imposing and overly loud instrumentals drowning her out and Galloway shows no pretense, only an all-natural and smooth-flowing voice in both her songwriting chops as well as vocal performance. Impressive!

Also, Galloway's chorus and its repetition of "I was a fool" works as a universal sentiment. Everyone feels foolish now and then, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Like a flame, love is fickle and 'flickers', meaning it either sustains its glow or ends up totally extinguished. It is an unsteady source of light yet continues to spark the one thing we always hold onto so dearly - hope.

Madison Galloway's voice is a ray of sunshine that softly and warmly peeps into your consciousness, recharging the listener after a long day of labour. "Flicker" provides a wholesome hook that latches onto and moves me to, oddly enough, dance next to deserted railroad tracks towards '#Who #Knows #Where' as suggested by the title of her 2016 album.
