Track of the Week: "Little Me" by Little Mix

The British girl group #Little #Mix launches this confidence-building single to empower young girls across the globe. "Little Me," a song from their album Salute, vocalizes the need to develop better self-esteem. Thankfully, time does help in that department through experience which can make a person wiser.

With a closer inspection, Little Mix's producer TMS samples a small segment from French composer Gabriel #Fauré's "Pavane" in F sharp minor. It sets up an old gramophone-sounding intro before the first verse sung by Leigh-Anne #Pinnock and Jade #Thirlwall surfaces: "She lives in the shadow of a lonely girl / Voice so quiet you don't hear a word / Always talking but she can't be heard." Insecurity holds a person back, forcing them to sit silently behind the crowd. This, however, does not last forever. Little Mix's harmonies perfectly synchronize and stitch together the unbreakable ribbon of sisterhood, a support system revving you up to go into ignition.

More so, there comes a day when you wish to offer sage advice to your teenage self and "tell her to speak up, tell her to shout out / Talk a bit louder, be a bit prouder / Tell her she's beautiful, wonderful / Everything she doesn't see." The moment you surpass shyness and understand exactly who you are, you will rise up and stand out like a rose always in bloom.
